Sacred Sedona Art / Sedona Art Collective
Foundational Business Plan Draft
This is a working draft intended for internal sharing and future refinement.
Overview
Sacred Sedona Art is an artist-created platform designed to support, promote, and uplift local artists in Sedona and the surrounding areas. The organization is built on the belief that art has the power to strengthen community, inspire connection, and help create a better world.
The project is made up of two connected parts. Sacred Sedona Art is the public-facing side of the organization, where artists and their work are promoted through artist profiles, artwork sales, local art news, insights, events, and community-centered creative offerings. Sedona Art Collective is the membership side of the organization, open to local artists across many modalities, including visual art, pottery, music, dance, poetry, jewelry, photography, and other forms of artistic expression.
Mission
Our mission is to create a strong, artist-driven community that supports local creatives, promotes meaningful artistic work, and builds lasting opportunities for collaboration, education, and shared growth.
Vision
Our vision is to develop a sustainable local arts organization that strengthens the creative foundation of Sedona through artist support, public visibility, democratic participation, and long-term community reinvestment.
Core Purpose
The purpose of the organization is to:
- support local artists through visibility, promotion, and sales
- create a professional and community-centered online platform for artistic members
- encourage artists of all modalities to support one another
- provide resources that help artists grow in their craft over time
- build a democratic organization where all members have an equal voice
- reinvest in the arts community through future shared opportunities and projects
Organizational Structure
The organization is artist-led and community-focused. All imagery, media, and creative representation connected to the platform are intended to be created by the artistic members themselves. The long-term structure is meant to be democratic, with each member having an equal voice in major decisions affecting the collective.
Revenue Model
There is currently no upfront cost for local artists to join the Sedona Art Collective.
When a sale is made through the website, 25% of the sale is retained by the organization:
- 15% supports website management, administration, and the technology behind the platform
- 10% is reserved for the future growth and development of the organization itself
As funds grow over time, members will help decide how those resources are used for the benefit of the collective and the local arts community.
Short-Term Goals
In the early stages, the focus of the organization is to:
- build the website and public-facing presence of Sacred Sedona Art
- create artist profiles and promotional opportunities for members
- begin selling artwork and creative offerings through the platform
- share local art news, events, and insights through the blog
- invite local artists to join the Sedona Art Collective
- begin building a stronger sense of artistic connection and mutual support in the community
Long-Term Goals
As the organization grows, longer-term goals may include:
- offering educational resources and training seminars for artists
- creating opportunities for younger and emerging artists
- funding community gatherings, artist meetings, and collaborative events
- securing a safe shared space for artists to practice or create
- renting a gallery or exhibit space for member artwork
- expanding artist services and public programming
- applying for nonprofit status
- eventually creating opportunities for donations and broader community support
Nonprofit Direction
One of the long-term goals of the organization is to evolve into a nonprofit structure if and when the foundation is strong enough to support that step. The nonprofit direction would allow the collective to operate with an even greater focus on community benefit, educational opportunities, local arts support, and broader cultural impact.
As this vision develops, future nonprofit goals may include:
- supporting public access to local art and creative experiences
- creating educational programs for youth and emerging artists
- building community-centered art initiatives
- providing resources that strengthen the local creative economy
- encouraging collaboration, inclusion, and artistic opportunity across disciplines
Guiding Principles
The organization is being built on a few core principles:
- artists supporting artists
- local community first
- equal voice and shared participation
- respect for all artistic modalities
- transparency in growth and decision-making
- long-term reinvestment into the creative community
Closing Statement
This plan is a starting point. Sacred Sedona Art and the Sedona Art Collective are intended to grow organically over time through shared ideas, collaborative leadership, and the contributions of local artists who believe in the value of art, community, and mutual support. As the organization evolves, this vision will continue to be refined by the members involved in helping shape it.
