Sacred Sedona Art exists because of a simple belief: that artists are stronger when they support one another, that community is essential to creative practice, and that the future of Sedona’s artistic foundation depends on structures built by artists, for artists. This page tells the story of why we built this platform, what we’re working toward, and how you can be part of reclaiming artist-centered values in Sedona.

Why Sacred Sedona Art Was Created

For generations, Sedona has been a magnet for artists. The dramatic landscape, the quality of light, the spiritual atmosphere, and the community of creative practitioners have drawn painters, photographers, musicians, dancers, poets, and makers from across disciplines. The art scene in Sedona has always been part of what makes this place distinctive.

But over recent years, something shifted. The traditional gallery system, which once served as the primary venue for artists to show and sell work, became increasingly concentrated in a small number of hands. Decision-making power consolidated. Economics tilted further away from artists and toward galleries and intermediaries. Many Sedona Artists found themselves isolated – competing for limited visibility in a system that didn’t prioritize their voice, their compensation, or their long-term sustainability.

The result? A fragmented creative community. Artists working in isolation rather than connection. Visibility without agency. Compensation structures that didn’t reflect fair value. And a gradual erosion of the community-centered approach that had made Art in Sedona meaningful in the first place.

This is the problem Sacred Sedona Art was created to address. Not by attacking or competing with existing structures, but by building something different, something rooted in artist agency, fair economics, and genuine community.

What We’re Building

  • To Promote Local Creative Voices

    We exist to amplify the work of Sedona Artists, to help their creativity reach people who value it, and to create visibility for the diverse range of artistic practice happening in this region. Whether a painter is showing work for the first time or an established artist is expanding their audience, Sacred Sedona Art provides a platform built to support that visibility.

  • To Share Meaningful Work with the Public

    We curate and showcase Sedona Artwork across all mediums and disciplines. We believe art matters not just as commodity, but as a form of meaning-making, connection, and cultural expression. Our role is to help people discover work that moves them, connects them to place, and invites them into the creative vision of local artists.

  • To Strengthen the Artistic Foundation of Sedona

    Beyond individual artists or individual sales, we’re committed to building infrastructure that strengthens the entire creative community of Sedona and the surrounding areas. This means fair compensation, community resources, collaborative opportunities, and decision-making structures that include artists themselves.

We believe Sedona Artists are stronger when they support one another. Competition isolates. Collaboration strengthens. Our platform is designed so that artist success is collective success – where fair compensation and community benefit are linked together. When an artist thrives through Sacred Sedona Art, the whole community benefits.

Fair Economics

We believe artists deserve compensation that reflects the true value of their work. Through Sacred Sedona Art, 75% of every sale goes directly to the artist. There are no upfront fees, no hidden costs, no extraction of value from creators. This structure is intentional and transparent. It reflects a commitment to economic justice for artists.

Creative Integrity

We believe art matters. Not just as product or commodity, but as a form of meaning-making, cultural expression, and human connection. Everything we do is designed to honor that integrity – to celebrate artists for who they are, to showcase work authentically, and to refuse to reduce creativity to numbers or trends.

We believe artists should have a voice in the community they’re part of. The Sedona Art Collective is structured so that major decisions are made with member participation. This isn’t a top-down hierarchy. It’s a democratic, artist-led community where every voice matters equally.

Authentic Community

We believe community is more than a buzzword. It means real connection, genuine collaboration, mutual support, and shared purpose. It means building spaces where artists can show up as themselves, contribute their voices, and be part of something larger than individual success. This is what we’re working to create.

Long-Term Sustainability

We’re not here to extract value and disappear. We’re committed to building structures that can sustain over time, that can evolve as the community grows, and that prioritize long-term artist welfare over short-term profit. This is why we’re working toward nonprofit status and building reinvestment mechanisms into the collective.

How We Work

The Structure Behind Sacred Sedona Art

Sacred Sedona Art operates on two integrated levels:

  • The Public Platform

    This is where the public can discover, explore, and purchase Sedona Artwork, learn about Sedona Artists, and participate in the local art community. It’s a gallery and marketplace designed to showcase work beautifully and to tell the stories behind creation.

  • The Sedona Art Collective

    This is the membership community where Sedona Artists connect, collaborate, make decisions together, and shape the future of their creative community. It’s where the deeper work of community-building happens – where artists have voice, agency, and genuine ownership.

These two sides work together. The public platform provides visibility and economic opportunity. The collective provides community, connection, and decision-making power. Together, they create a system where artists can thrive.

Our Commitment to Transparency

When Sedona Artwork is sold through this platform, here’s how the revenue is distributed:

When Sedona Artwork is sold through this platform, here’s how the revenue is distributed:

  • 10% is reserved for collective growth and future community resources
  • 15% supports website management, technology, and administration
  • 75% goes directly to the artist

That 10% reserved for collective growth is intentionally reinvested back into the community. Over time, these resources may fund physical spaces for artists, educational programs, community events, collaborative projects, and initiatives shaped by the members themselves.

This structure is transparent and consistent. Every artist knows exactly how their sales support the platform and the community.

Connection to Sedona’s Artistic Heritage

Standing on the Shoulders of Those Who Came Before

Sacred Sedona Art doesn’t exist in isolation. We’re part of a long history of artists being drawn to Sedona, of creative practice rooted in this place, and of community-centered approaches to art and culture.

For generations, Art in Sedona has been shaped by the landscape itself – by the red rocks, the quality of light, the desert environment, and the spiritual atmosphere that many artists experience here. Beyond the physical place, Sedona has also attracted artists seeking community, seeking connection to something larger than individual practice, and seeking to create work rooted in values beyond commercial success.

That heritage is something we honor and build upon. We’re not creating something entirely new. We’re recovering and strengthening approaches to artistic community that were present in Sedona’s art history – approaches centered on artists supporting artists, on shared resources, and on the belief that community makes individual creativity possible.

The Foundation of Creative Practice

Our Vision for the Future

Where We’re Headed

  • Expanded Artist Community

    We envision a thriving Sedona Art Collective with dozens and eventually hundreds of Sedona Artists across all disciplines. Artists who find genuine community, fair compensation, and agency in a platform built by and for creators.

  • Physical Spaces

    Over time, we hope to create physical spaces – studios, galleries, gathering places – where artists can create, collaborate, exhibit, and build community in person. These spaces would be shaped by and for the artists themselves.

  • Educational & Support Resources

    As the collective grows, we want to fund resources that support artistic development – workshops, mentorship programs, artist residencies, grants, and opportunities for creative growth.

  • Cultural Leadership

    We want Sacred Sedona Art to model a different approach to art community – one rooted in artist agency, fair economics, and genuine values. We hope this example inspires other communities to build similar structures that center artists rather than exploit them.
